History of the temple

Talking about the temple, the Ghati Subramanya Temple is dedicated to Lord Subramanya and Lakshmi Narasimha. Lord Subramanya, the elder son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, is considered the lord of serpents. Regarding the story of Ghati Subramanya, the main deity of this temple is Kartikeya, who is found alongside Lord Narasimha. According to legend, it is believed that both idols emerged from the earth. The idol of Kartikeya, in the form of a seven-headed serpent, faces east, while the idol of Lord Narasimha faces west. According to the legend, the deity…

…appeared in the dream of the king of Sandur and revealed the location of the idols. With the help of locals, the king discovered the deity’s idols and later began constructing a temple around them. It is believed that the idol of Sri Subramanya is self-manifested. The Ghati Subramanya Temple has a history of over 600 years and is an ancient temple built in the Dravidian tradition. Installing serpent idols is an interesting ritual here, and thousands of such idols can be seen near the temple.

Best time to visit the temple

The best time to visit the Ghati Subramanya Temple there are six ideal times to visit. The first is Brahmarathotsava, which occurs during Pushya Masa Shuddha Shashti (December or January). You can visit during this time. The second is Nag Panchami, which takes place during Shravana Masa (July or August). So, you can visit in July or August. The third is Narasimha Jayanti, during Vaishakha Masa Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi (April). The fourth is Teppotsava, during Karthika Masa Shuddha Panchami (January or February). The fifth is Panchashashti, during Margashira Masa Shuddha Shashti (November). Best Places to visit at the temple

Nearby places you must visit from the Ghati Subramanya Temple include: Nandi Hills (30 km away), Isha Foundation (40 km away), Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi Temple (45 km away), and Devarayana Durga (70 km away). Now, I’ll tell you about the total cost and how many days it takes to visit the Ghati Subramanya Temple. Regarding the cost, excluding pujas, I’ll talk about the general expenses.

Budget for the traveling to the temple

This is budget-friendly and helpful for everyone. If you’re coming from Bengaluru by a private bus to Doddaballapura and then taking an auto to the temple, it will cost you within ₹150. If you opt for a special entry ticket, that’s an extra ₹50. So, ₹150 + ₹50 = ₹200. If you eat outside the temple, that will cost around ₹100 to ₹150. So, the total expense will be within ₹500. If you’re booking a room, the cost starts at ₹450…

…an extra ₹450 will be the cost. So, if you book a room, do darshan, have food, and return, ₹1000 is enough. You can book a room, do darshan, eat at the temple, and come back. Now, suppose you’re only coming for darshan, meaning you’re not booking a room, not performing any pujas, not eating outside the temple, and just doing Sarva Darshan without taking a special entry ticket. If you do Sarva Darshan, eat at the temple, and return, there will be no cost at all except for the ₹70 pass I mentioned earlier.
